How do the alarms work?

Security systems have three basic components:

Sensors: Devices placed around a home or business with the purpose of detecting trouble. There are different types of sensors, designed to trigger when a door is opened, glass is broken, there’s movement in the room, or smoke. Once a threat is identified, the sensor is triggered and sends an alert to the Control Panel.

Control Panel: Besides being used to arm and disarm the alarm system, it also receives signals from the sensors and sends alerts to the Monitoring Centre.

Monitoring Station: Your alarm system should be monitored 24/7, in order to respond to alerts from the Control Panel. This way, once a threat is detected, the monitoring team are alerted and are able to contact the authorities, who will rush to your property.

How do I know how secure my property is?

You can never guarantee your house or business is 100% secure. However, there are some measures you can take to prevent unfortunate events. If you’re interested in knowing some of these measures, we can send you a full report. All you have to do is leave your name and email in the sidebar at the top of this page. Also, Core Security can visit your property and do an assessment to offer you a customised solution in security, based on your needs.

Do I need my alarm system upgraded?

If you have your security system maintained regularly, it should work perfectly and prevent any threat from entering your property. However, there are always new technologies being released in the market to help you secure your house or business more efficiently. Contact Core Security to have an assessment done and guarantee your system is up-to-date.

How much warranty does Core Security offer?

Core Security offers a full 12-month warranty on every new security system installed.

Can I have the perimeter of my property secured, as well as the interior?

Yes, Core Security offer many different types of security systems, which can be adapted and customised according to your needs, to secure both the perimeter and the interior of your property.

What if my pets set off the alarm?

This is very unlikely to happen, as most good motion sensors are pet-immune. This means that the system will recognise when an animal that weights less than 18kg triggers the sensor and will not set off the alarm. If you have a big dog, Core Security can also offer an upgrade to guarantee it will not be detected.

How do I select the right equipment to protect my home or business?

Start with the points of entry: 90% of break-ins happen through the doors, so make sure that all accessible doors have sensors. Ground-floor windows may also be protected by motion sensors, or glass break sensors, depending on the layout of your home or business. Core Security offer customised alarm systems, so just call us and we can pay a visit and help you build the right security system for you.

Should I have wireless or wired system?

It all depends on the purpose and the type of property you are going to protect. Both wireless and wired systems have advantages and disadvantages. Wires may be cut by burglars, while wireless devices can suffer interference. The main thing to consider is whether the system meets your current needs and whether it can expand to meet your future needs. That’s why you should have a professional assess your house or business to tell what’s the best solution for you. Usually, a combination of both wireless and wired components makes the most efficient systems.

Can I get an alarm system if I’m renting a house or building?

Yes, Core Security can provide you with a completely wireless alarm system, so you can take it with you with no fuss in case you move.

Can I take my security system with me if I move?

You can take the components and devices with you, but the best thing to do is have Core Security do an assessment on your new location, as the weak points on your new place may be different from the ones on your previous property. Remember that all our systems are customised to your current needs.

Will my alarm system still work if the power is cut?

Good security systems should come with a backup battery installed and it will switch automatically to it during the power failure. Most of these batteries are rechargeable, and will recharge once the power is returned.

Do I need to replace the batteries of my sensors?

Batteries are programmed to last years, but they should be checked at least once a year to guarantee you’re not going to get in trouble in case of a power cut.

How often do I need to maintain my security system?

Your security system should be tested at least once a month to guarantee it’s working perfectly and will trigger the necessary response in case of emergency. Full checking and maintenance is advised once a year.

Why is it important to have a monitoring service?

The noise of an alarm may scare some burglars, but the most experienced ones may disable it. And in the case of fire or other dangers (non-burglary) it mightn’t be of much help, anyway. Also, sometimes it’s difficult to determine where the siren is sounding and neighbours often ignore a sounding alarm. That’s why you should have your security system monitored 24/7, especially if you are away or disabled. This way, the monitoring team can take action immediately and, in case of emergency, contact both you the proper authorities.

Does Core Security provide monitoring?

Yes, Core Security provides round-the-clock monitoring service, to give you the peace of mind that your house or business is constantly being watched by professionals.

Do I need to have a landline, broadband internet or mobile phone signal to sign up for a monitoring contract?

No, Core Security use radio technology, which is an innovative alarm system that operates via radio waves instead of phone lines. Even if cell towers are down or landline telephone service is out, your property will remain protected by Core Security, providing consistent, reliable, and comprehensive protection for you.

Can I have access to my CCTV on my iPhone?

Yes, Core Security can provide you with an app, where you can access and see live all that’s being recorded by your cameras. This way, it’s easy to have peace of mind that your property is safe while you’re away.
